The fetus
- The egg is maturing in the ovary and preparing for ovulation.
- The uterine lining is building up and thickening to receive a fertilized egg.
- Ovulation typically occurs at the end of week 2 or the beginning of week 3.
Your body
Physical changes
- Estrogen is rising and the uterine lining is growing.
- Cervical mucus may become clearer and more stretchy near ovulation.
Common symptoms
- Possible ovulation pain (mittelschmerz) in some women.
- No pregnancy symptoms yet.
Good to know
- If you are trying to conceive, the days around ovulation are the most fertile.
- Continue taking folic acid every day.
- Make sure you get enough sleep and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Food & nutrition
Good to eat
- Legumes, lentils and whole grains for folic acid.
- Fish such as salmon and mackerel for omega-3 fatty acids.
Be aware of
- Be aware that certain fish contain high levels of mercury.
Avoid
- Alcohol if you are trying to conceive.
- Large amounts of caffeine.
Supplements
- Continue taking folic acid 400 micrograms daily.
- Consider vitamin D if you are not getting enough from sunlight.
Exercise
Keep up with your regular exercise routine. There are no restrictions at this early stage.
