Gravidveckan
Week 3of 40
Trimester 1

from 2 full weeks + 0 days to 2 full weeks + 6 days

The fetus
  • Fertilization happens! The sperm meets the egg in the fallopian tube and forms a zygote.
  • The zygote begins dividing into more and more cells as it travels toward the uterus.
  • By the end of the week, the cell cluster has become a blastocyst with about a hundred cells.
Your body

Physical changes

  • The body begins producing hCG hormone after implantation, but levels are still very low.
  • Most people notice no changes at all this week.

Common symptoms

  • Usually no noticeable symptoms.
  • Some may experience light implantation bleeding toward the end of the week.
Good to know
  • It is too early to take a pregnancy test — wait until your period is missed.
  • Continue living healthily and taking your folic acid.
  • Avoid alcohol if you suspect you may be pregnant.
Food & nutrition

Good to eat

  • Iron-rich foods such as red meat, beans and spinach.
  • Fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, which helps iron absorption.

Be aware of

  • Avoid unpasteurized dairy products and raw fish if you may be pregnant.

Avoid

  • Alcohol — the embryo is especially sensitive in the very first weeks.
  • Smoking and secondhand smoke.

Supplements

  • Folic acid 400 micrograms daily is the most important supplement right now.
Exercise

You can exercise just as usual. Physical activity does not negatively affect implantation.

Suggested activities

  • Walking
  • Swimming
  • Your regular form of exercise
